I have over two years of experience freelancing in the live music industry, having worked with various companies and independent sound engineers. Most recently, I have worked for the Nerve Centre mainly in sound and lighting technical roles, however, have also undertaken the position of stage manager and artist liaison for events.
In order to build up my experience and familiarity with equipment I have shadowed in the Millennium Forum and worked as a Theatre Technician (acting technical manager) in the Waterside Theatre.
Some of the equipment and processes I'm familiar with are:
I have a creative passion to explore the interactivity of audio and visual processes. Through using Max and TouchDesigner software I have developed a range of patches, many of which focus mainly on audio effects, however, I have also expanded upon the concepts explored in the initial patches to influence ideas of how to make audio-reactive visuals. I have further developed some of these patches to be compatable with the live sound environment through Ableton and Max4Live, this is a topic that I would like to learn more about and be able to create more advanced projects in.
Some demonstrations of my work can be seen in the examples.
This project demonstrates a basic audio sampler with the capability of adding delay and feedback sound effects created entire using Max software programming. The sampler was developed in two separate sub-patches, signal objects are used to record the audio and playback with the effects into the audio buffer, the toggle button allows for this cycle to be repeated every 10 seconds, a random number generator determines the rate at which the audio sample created is played back. Using Max objects to create a delay line allowed the signal received from the sound-file player to be stored and repeated every 0.15 seconds. The delay element of the patch is interactive as a user can use the live dial to determine the level of delay applied to the audio. The video demonstration can be viewed here.
This project demonstrates a useable additive synthesiser in Max, it uses all four oscillators (sine, saw, triangle and rectangle waveforms) and ADSR envelopes, a spectrogram object shows a visual representation of the frequencies concluded from the synthesiser process. Each time a key is pressed on the keyboard it outputs a numerical value which triggers the waveforms, a user can generate an ADSR envelope for each of the waveforms by drawing their own envelope shape in the patch. The video demonstration can be viewed here.
As part of my dissertation for University I explored the origin and future of AudioVisual creations with particular reference to technological advancements in the field and gestural AV. Through this I demonstrated an interactive project developed using TouchDesigner and an Arduino system, it was out of scope to develop this project for live, however, it is something I would like to explore in the future. I have a key understanding of music theory and structure; music production allows me to creatively develop and express any musical visions. I have created my own music and have used sampling and editing techniques to develop tracks, I primarily use Logic Pro, but have also experience using Ableton Live and Adobe Audition. I have produced a set of sound effects and musical ambience used for student games, examples of which can be viewed at the link:

Being first introduced to the world of computer programming through a creative coding module in my degree, I view it as an opportunity to expand my skillset and practice problem solving and critical thinking. I enjoy it as there are endless projects to develop through coding, it is a constant opportunity to challenge myself and learn new things. I use front-end programming languages HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to develop projects such as an online synthesiser, my own digital portfolio and a website for a local business.
